Book Review : The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena

Here is the book that has been sitting in my TBR list for like ages.

I’ve been wondering about this book for so long and when I finally got my hands on the book, I kinda freak out LOL

Wondering will I be able to find this book as hype as it claimed to be and this book just left abandoned in the shelves and voila! years gone by until I muster my courage and decided I have left this book far too long behind.

Genre : Mystery, Thriller
Page : 308 pages
Published : 23rd August 2016

Anne and Marco Conti seem to have it all–a loving relationship, a wonderful home, and their beautiful baby, Cora. But one night when they are at a dinner party next door, a terrible crime is committed. Suspicion immediately focuses on the parents. But the truth is a much more complicated story.

Inside the curtained house, an unsettling account of what actually happened unfolds. Detective Rasbach knows that the panicked couple is hiding something. Both Anne and Marco soon discover that the other is keeping secrets, secrets they’ve kept for years.

“Everyone is faking it, all of them pretending to be something they’re not. The whole world is built on lies and deceit.”

In the beginning, I feel doubtful for the book but it all went away for the intriguing intro!

The Couple Next Door— A fun night out turns disaster that changes the life of Anne and Marco Conti for forever.

One night, Anne and Marco Conti decided to attend a dinner party next door. Little did they know, this one fun night will changed their life for forever.

I love how harmless it all seems at the beginning chapter, Just going out, chilling at neighbour’s and just chillax. Even though deep down you know something is coming.

Before we move on, let me specify this. The problem with thriller, if you read the wrong book, you might end up yawning and months to finished the book because there are rarely any exciting moments in thriller except plot twist and a good page turner.

But if you found the perfect thriller, you might end up addicted to it. Precisely like this book. I love how this book does not beat around the bush and everything just happened so damn fast. This book makes you wonder like : “okay, the beans out now. What’s next?”

And that is what keeping me on edge and to keep on reading.

My most favourite part of the book is the engaging writing, that makes you feel like a part of the story and most particularly, someone who has deeper connection among the characters rather than the inner circle of the characters themselves.

I could hardly find any defect on the book due to the good writing. This book is not perfect but it is good enough to left such massive impression on me. I craved a good thriller and this book offers me one. It’s not that scary or thrilling, but I love how there are no weird, unexplainable psychological stuffs happening here.

Just a clean, engaging mystery thriller. Not enough to make you awake all night but enough to put you on edge to discover the truth.

As a thriller lover, I hardly recommend thriller for I know it’s not eveyone cup of tea, but I would gladly recommend this book to anyone who are interested to know more about thriller.

“Such kindness, and such thoughtless cruelty.”
